New Medlock House is situated just off Oxford Road, known locally as the Student Quarter due to its popular clubs, pubs, bars, and university halls. The property is also just a five-minute walk from the town centre, so you’re never far from the action. 
Within a couple of minutes’ walk from the property, you’ll find restaurants such as Nandos, Rice, and Zouk.
New Medlock House is a five-minute walk from the University of Manchester, UMIST, Manchester Metropolitan University, Royal Northern College of Music and Northern Ballet School campuses, so the area is very popular with students.
Concert-goers also flock to Oxford Road for venues such as the Palace Theatre, Manchester Academy, RNCM, Dancehouse Theatre, Green Room, Cornerhouse, and Contact Theatre; all of which are located in the area within a 10-minute walk of New Medlock House.
Manchester has many open public areas, popular with joggers, dog walkers and students alike. Hulme Park is around 10 minutes’ walk from New Medlock House. The park is large, spacious and green and is a great place for sunbathing as well as having a BMX track and skate ramps.
There is also Platt Fields park, which is a 15-minute bus journey from New Medlock House, which has both basketball and tennis courts, as well as an ‘eco-garden’.
Manchester Museum, which is part of The University of Manchester, is a five-minute walk away from the accommodation.
Getting Active
Students staying at New Medlock House are welcome to use the gym facilities available at Piccadilly Point, just a short walk from the property (subject to a small induction fee).
The Manchester Aquatics Centre is just five minutes’ walk from New Medlock Place. Built for the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the centre has two 50m swimming pools, a diving pool, scuba diving centre, leisure pool with water slides, sauna and steam rooms, sunbeds, and a gym. Students can take advantage of a special discounted membership rate.
Sports fans are spoilt for choice in Manchester. From New Medlock House, head south-west down Stretford Road to Manchester United’s Old Trafford football stadium. Nearby, you’ll also find Old Trafford Cricket Ground which hosts many England tests.
To the north east of the city sits Sportcity Manchester, home to Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Manchester Velodrome, the National BMX Arena, and the National Squash Centre. This area can be easily reached by the city’s extensive bus and tram network.

New Medlock House is situated just off Oxford Road, one of the most extensively-covered public transport routes in the UK. It boasts several different bus routes which run every five minutes.
There is also a free bus service that runs throughout Manchester city centre and will take you to destinations such as Piccadilly Station and Shude Hill (for the Arndale Shopping Centre).
New Medlock House is also a five-minute walk away from Oxford Road train station, with trains that can take you to several destinations around the UK.
There is also the recently re-developed Metrolink service which runs every five minutes. The Metrolink stop on St. Peters Square is located around a 10-minute walk away from New Medlock House.
Local Essentials
On Oxford Road, just a few minutes’ from New Medlock House, is a Tesco Metro and a Sainsbury’s Local for convenience shopping, as well as many coffee shops, takeaways and restaurants.
Just a 15-minute walk or a five-minute bus journey from New Medlock House is the Arndale Centre, home to over 200 shops and restaurants. A short bus ride will also get you to popular shopping areas like Market Street and King Street.
You can also get the Metrolink to the Trafford Centre which is one of the largest indoor shopping centres in Europe.
Both the Manchester Library and the University Library are located about a 10-minute walk away from New Medlock House. The free shuttle bus can take you to both libraries, so you don’t need to worry if you have too many books to carry.
Your Wellbeing
Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Manchester Dental Hospital and St. Mary's Hospital are all located on Oxford Road, close to New Medlock House.
Both universities offer welfare, financial and career advice to all their students and these can be found in advice clinics within both MMU and Manchester University campuses. New Medlock House is close to all the campus departments so students are never far away from any help they need.
