Located on the outskirts of Liverpool city centre, close to Edge Hill, The Railyard is very close to the University of Liverpool South campus, with supermarkets, shops and banks five minutes’ walk away.
The Oxford pub is five minutes’ walk away on Oxford Street, with The Cambridge and The Font 10 minutes’ walk away.
It is also 10 minutes from both the Students’ Union on Maryland Street (LJMU) and Liverpool Guild of Students, Brownlow Hill (UoL) which hosts many student activities including society meetings and club nights.
Liverpool city centre, just 20 minutes away, boasts a whole range of shopping and restaurants from St Johns Centre to the high end shopping stores in the Met Quarter and around Liverpool ONE.
The Odeon Cinema is based in the Liverpool ONE shopping centre – a unique experience of an indoor shopping centre outside. It has an IMAX cinema, luxury gallery seating and shows 2D and 3D films every day. The shopping centre is 20 minutes’ from The Railyard.
Liverpool Empire Theatre is located next to Liverpool Lime Street train station. It has a large variety of concerts, and stage productions at reasonable prices. The Royal Court Theatre, just next to Queen Square bus station, is also home to stage productions as well as regular comedy acts.
There are many attractions based on arguably Liverpool’s most famous export, The Beatles. These include the Beatles Festival in August, plus attractions like The Cavern, The Beatles Story and Taxi Tours.
The Sports Centre of the University of Liverpool is less than 10 minutes’ walk away. There are also a number of ‘Lifestyles’ gyms locally - members can visit gyms across the city with a single membership. The nearest gym is in Picton, in walking distance of The Railyard.
Liverpool and Everton football clubs are separated only by Stanley Park, less than three miles from the city centre. Liverpool play at Anfield stadium, and Everton play at Goodison Park. Both stadiums are just a short bus ride away and offer stadium tours as well as match day tickets.

There is a bus stop less than 100m from The Railyard which takes you into the city centre, Marybone, and out to the Smithdown Road area where a large supermarket is situated. It is easily accessed by taxis, and you are in walking distance of most places.
The bus stop on Crown Street is served by Arriva routes 76 and 173. Cumfy Bus route 139 passes another stop two minutes’ walk away opposite the Oxford pub, and there is also a National Express coach station on Norton Street – 30 minutes’ walk from The Railyard, or a short taxi ride.
Liverpool Lime Street is the main train station for local and national rail services and is a gateway to the rest of the UK. Manchester and Chester are only an hour away and Blackpool is only 90 minutes on the train. There are train and admission deals available to attractions around the country, such as Alton Towers and Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
The Railyard is ideally situated near several Tesco Express stores and there are other independent newsagents close by on the university campus. A larger ASDA is on Smithdown road, a short taxi or bus journey away.
Tesco Metro on Overton Street is five minutes’ walk and is the largest of the Tesco stores nearby. There is also a Metro on Brownlow Hill, and a smaller Express on Myrtle Parade. These are ideal to pop in for essentials on your way to or from lectures. Myrtle Parade also has a number of newsagents, takeaways and restaurants.
Local banks are situated on the university campus, 10 minutes away on Oxford Street and Brownlow Hill – including Barclays, HSBC, Natwest and Lloyds TSB.
The Railyard is five minutes from the University of Liverpool Sydney Jones Library (for all subjects except Science and Engineering) and 10 minutes from the Harold Cohen Library for Science & Engineering.
LJMU Aldham Robarts Library is on Maryland Street near the Students' Union, 10 minutes away, and LJMU Avril Robarts Library is on Tithebarn Street around 30 minutes’ walk from the property or via the 79 Bus outside The Railyard. There is also the newly renovated Liverpool Central Library near Lime Street Station.
Student Health is based in the centre of UoL campus. All students can register here for healthcare. It is part of the Brownlow Group of surgeries, with other practices available around the city centre.
UoL Student Services for welfare advice are based on the other side of Student Health near the Guild of Students. LJMU welfare and advice centre is on Tithebarn street.
The Royal Liverpool University Hospital is situated on Prescot Street – just a five-minute walk away from The Railyard. There is also Great Charlotte Street Walk-in Centre near St Johns Centre in the city centre, which provides walk-in services for minor injuries and sexual health without appointment.
